Overview

Steve and Jill Klein Mathiason started Matthiasson wines in 2003 after working for many years in the sustainable agriculture and local food movement. For us, winemaking is a natural extension of farming. Our wines are classical expressions of different grape varieties, some well-known like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, and some rare like Ribolla Gialla and Refosco (originaly grown in the Friuli region of Italy). The wines are refreshing, complement food, and are moderate in alcohol.

About Matthiasson

Since launching Matthiasson in 2003, our wines have been highly regarded by both customers and critics. Steve Matthiasson has been named Winemaker of the Year by both the San Francisco Chronicle and Food and Wine Magazine, and he is a six- time nominee for the prestigious James Beard Award. The New York Times wine reviewer, Eric Asimov, wrote that, “...their [Matthiasson] wines bear an agricultural stamp, as fresh, lively and alive as the best produce from a farmers market...”
