About Saison Winery

I started Saison Winery in 2013 as a next step after being founder and wine director of Saison Restaurant. We first launched to make single vineyard wines that match the ethos of the cuisine of the restaurant. Pure flavors from specific terroir and very minimal winemaking intervention. The wines were first being produced to match with seasonal creations in the restaurant and through increased demand we are now making a few hundred more cases for our wine club and clients that enjoy the offerings. 

If there's one thing to know about Saison, it's that we care deeply about our Vineyards

Where the grapes come from is most of the battle. We aren't grape growers, but we're as close as you can get just from the sheer attention to detail and care that we put into not only finding the absolute best vineyard sites, but also in how meticulous we are in having the best fruit from the vineyard and creating the best representation with our wines.

Take the Coastview Vineyard for example... (pictured below). This is one of the highest elevation vineyards in Monterey. This sunny vineyard site is kept cool by the wind of the Monterey bay. Syrah is king in this vineyard and is one of the best examples of the varietal in the new world.

"I feel like it's an unfair advantage to see this wine available on Vinebase.  Mark Bright is one of the co-founders of Saison, the esteemed SF restaurant - that's particularly well known for their incredible wine list, thanks to Mark. One word to describe Mark? Passionate. Mark started out on the path to become a Master Sommelier, and learned that winemaking and building world class wine experiences was more his vibe. Mark has done winemaking projects with Rajat Parr and spent months in wine regions across the globe. He’s so geeky about his vineyards that you can really tell he cares, and that results in some incredible wines. The Saison wines are mostly Rhone/French-style takes on Santa Cruz fruit. Their super small production and sell out quickly since they're selected from very specific vineyard sites. Definitely a little more of a splurge but incredible and certainly worth it for the right occassions!"
