Cabernet Sauvignon, 2017

Produced by Matthiasson

2016 was a mild year, warm with an early start, but never too hot. The vintage gave us an elegant Cabernet, aromatic and complex. The nose shows abundant red fruits, lots of bright cherry along with bramble-berries, such as blackberry, cranberry, mulberry, and framed with hints of mineral/herbal characters such as graphite, cedar, and pencil shavings. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with light tannin and beautiful acidity. Decanting is highly recommended.

Noteworthy Topography

The grapes for this wine were sourced from six vineyards throughout the Napa Valley.

Napa, California

Steve and Jill Klein Mathiason started Matthiasson wines in 2003 after working for many years in the sustainable agriculture and local food movement. For us, winemaking is a natural extension of farming. Our wines are classical expressions of different grape varieties, some well-known like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, and some rare like Ribolla Gialla and Refosco (originaly grown in the Friuli region of Italy). The wines are refreshing, complement food, and are moderate in alcohol.
