2016 was a mild year, warm with an early start, but never too hot. The vintage gave us an elegant Cabernet, aromatic and complex. The nose shows abundant red fruits, lots of bright cherry along with bramble-berries, such as blackberry, cranberry, mulberry, and framed with hints of mineral/herbal characters such as graphite, cedar, and pencil shavings. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with light tannin and beautiful acidity. Decanting is highly recommended. ***Note: For summer months, Matthiasson will provide overnight shipping for $30 for all orders on Vinebase.***

The grapes for this wine were sourced from six vineyards throughout the Napa Valley.
Steve and Jill Klein Mathiason started Matthiasson wines in 2003 after working for many years in the sustainable agriculture and local food movement. For us, winemaking is a natural extension of farming. Our wines are classical expressions of different grape varieties, some well-known like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, and some rare like Ribolla Gialla and Refosco (originaly grown in the Friuli region of Italy). The wines are refreshing, complement food, and are moderate in alcohol. ***Note: For summer months, Matthiasson will provide overnight shipping for $30 for all orders on Vinebase.***View our winery page

"Deep purple color appearance. Medium [+] intensity aromas of dark fruits - dark currant, blackberry, gooseberry - and earth tones including bramble along with leather and clove with developing characteristics. Dry and medium acidity on the super pleasant palate with medium [+] intensity flavors of same with traces of wet stone minerality and porta bella mushroom influenced umami, full body, medium alcohol (13.0 ABV) and long finish. Outstanding wine, has potential for further aging (at least ten more years). Link to full IGTV review: Bill the Wine Guy on Instagram"
