Petit Verdot, 2019

Produced by Lepe Cellars

Rounded aromas of roasted strawberry, savory soy and light licorice dust show on the nose of this exploration of southern Monterey County. Dark-plum and strawberry aromas show on the elegant sip, which also shows a bit of earthy forest floor.

What's cool?

Rare Varietal

Uncommon to find in single-varietal wines. Winemakers love Petit Verdot. Until recently, however, they favored it only in small amounts – maybe a splash to bolster a Bordeaux blend or to give a little oomph to a sagging red. You see, Petit Verdot is a cocky, assertive varietal. But that’s why, more and more, American winemakers are so keen to wrangle it into barrels as a single varietal.
