Compelling aromas of dark fruit, dry earth, cocoa, leather, and dried herbs combine to create a ruby-colored wine overflowing with flavors of ripe plums, cassis, and black cherry. Finish is long and mineral-driven with fine-grained, silky tannins. An excellent expression of the fruit from this historic estate. one of our best vintages.

Grown in the exclusive “Rutherford Bench” which runs about 3 miles north beginning in Oakville along the west side of Highway 29. Chaix Family Vineyards is a 38-acre parcel in the center of the appellation. The deep, loamy “Rutherford Dust” produces the lush fruit character for which area Cabernets are known. The wine is cultivated from a block planted in 1991 with Freedom rootstock grafted with clone 337.
The drought persisted and an earthquake rocked Napa Valley in August. In a vintage year where we received half the rain of a normal winter, we were thrilled to see rain in February and March. The spring was warm and very dry and quantities were again lower as vines struggled. In the end, 2014 was another stellar vintage year.
Our story in the Napa Valley began more than 110 years ago. Our goal as growers has remained consistent over the century – let our fruit reflect the essential elements of the land and the qualities of the growing season. As vintners our philosophy is much the same. At Chaix Wines we handcraft a Cabernet Sauvignon with grapes sourced exclusively from our historic estate.View our winery page
